Part Two of the Symposium consists of two presentations:
Presentation 1: Leveraging AI and Automation for Streamlined Construction Procurement – Advancing Efficiency and Decision-Making in Large-Scale Projects (Jeremy Huynh)
This presentation will look at how AI and automation can make large-scale construction procurement faster, clearer, and more efficient. It focuses on practical applications like improving scope clarity, reducing scope creep, and streamlining tender evaluations using tools such as retrieval-augmented generation, predictive analytics, and natural language processing.
The presentation draws upon research that combines literature reviews, case studies across multiple countries, and industry interviews to develop a flexible AI-enabled procurement framework. Key benefits include cutting document review time, enhancing contract precision, and improving supplier transparency—while maintaining human oversight for accountability.
Attendees will learn actionable strategies, governance guidelines, and ethical considerations for adopting AI responsibly in construction procurement.
Presentation 2: Defining Industry Requirements for AI-Driven Resource Management in Construction (Ali Alashwal)
This talk will explore how Artificial Intelligence can improve resource management in the construction industry by addressing challenges like fragmented processes and poor data integration. The talk will identify six key capabilities for an AI-driven system:
1. integrating diverse data for better forecasting
2. predictive planning to avoid shortages
3. optimised resource allocation
4. automating repetitive tasks
5. workforce planning
6. real-time performance benchmarking
Additional opportunities include material tracking, logical sequencing of activities, and balancing time–cost trade-offs. These insights aim to guide developers and practitioners in creating integrated AI solutions that enhance efficiency, adaptability, and decision-making across the project lifecycle.
